TN: 2007 Domaine du Grand Montmirail Vacqueyras

QPR Alert! $15.99 at Beltramos here in the Bay Area.

  • 2007 Domaine du Grand Montmirail Vacqueyras - France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Vacqueyras (9/11/2009)
    Another 07 Southern Rhone value alert! This fantastic little $16 bottle should be on your shopping list. Bright but dark red color with lots of raspberry notes on the nose and a small hint of white pepper. The usual blend for this wine is 65% Grenache, 25% Syrah and 10% Mouvedre and the Grenache really seems to dominate the palate with lots of dark fruits, plum and a bit of spice. Nice full body with great texture. Very nice, especially for the price. (90 pts.)

Thx. Have a bottle of this on tap to try soon

Rob - was yours the Cuvee des Deux Freres bottling?

I ask b/c the one I have is and I cracked it last night…yeehaw was it tasty.

I can’t say for sure at this point. The bottle itself is gone now. Is that a different label designation or an importer thing?

Good question. I don’t know. The one I have is imported by Beaune Imports in Berkeley.

I’ll probably pick up another bottle at Beltramos tomorrow evening. I’ll check it and get back to you.

Cool. I just checked the Montmirail website and it looks like they have 3 red Vacqueyras wines, with the following designations:

Saint Papes
Cuvee De L’Ermite
Cuvee Des Deux Freres

All around the same price point. $15-$20 US

Here’s a link to the website:

http://www.chateau-de-montmirail.com/ProdA.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I wonder if we are referring to the same producer.

See the CT label (link from my note) and compare to the ones on the site you were looking at.

Also look here:

Domaine du Grand Montmirail" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

This site http://www.vacqueyras.tm.fr/acaves.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; also lists Chateau de Montmirail and Domaine du Grand Montmirail as separate producers.

Ah, I think you are right…confusing.

At any rate, you should check out the 2007 Montmirail Cuvee des Deux Freres…about $17 and pretty darn good.
