TN: 2007 Domaine de la Pépière Muscadet Clos des Briords

  • 2007 Domaine de la Pépière (Marc Ollivier) Muscadet de Sèvre-et-Maine Sur Lie Clos des Briords, Cuvée Vieilles Vignes - France, Loire Valley, Pays Nantais, Muscadet de Sèvre-et-Maine (2/11/2009)
Floral nose of pears with some minerally rainy sidewalk notes. Clean with strong minerality and pleasant acidity. This lack some fruit expression on the midpalate though. The 2nd night brings a note of straw to the nose with fresh cut lemon. THe palate os apple peal and grapefruit with a big tart finish. Terrific food wine and a minerality sluts dream. I’m not sure how this will age with the lack of fruit concentration but is a great refreshing drink now. Solid value at $15.

Thanks for the note. I do enjoy these with the right food.

I’m opening a couple of bottles of this tonight at a tasting I am hosting. Should be interesting.

Thanks for the note! I really enjoyed the '06 but I’m a mineral & acid slut. [give_heart.gif]

If you get a chance, try his Granite de Clisson (I think '05 is the only one available now). It will be 20-25$ but it’s aged so long sur lie that it cannot legally be called sur lie. There is so much body and fruit that you don’t notice the acid like the Clos des Briords, but it’s there for structure. The story behind it is a gathering of Melon from all granite soils, interesting stuff.

You must LOVE Chablis…

I love this wine. These are quite old vines and can easily age 15+years. The '06 was pretty fat on release. Can’t wait to try the '07. It holds for days and really opens up on day 3. It’s up to $15 so KB folks beware of the price increase. [cray.gif]

Thanks for the tip Daniel. I’ll look out for it. Muscadet is rapidly turning into my go to white for dinner.

Tasted it last night, and I absolutely do not get the comment about “lack of fruit density.” The wine is packed with hard tree fruit & then completely packed with minerals. It’s more structured than the '05, and I like it better.
