TN: 2007 Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé Chambolle-Musigny

  • 2007 Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé Chambolle-Musigny - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny (5/3/2016)
Plain & simple: this is absolutely ready right now! Nice tart red fruits (raspberry, strawberry, pomegranate) and a relatively small amount of cinnamon and rose petals augmenting the fruit perfectly with a light to medium acidity make this such an easy wine to enjoy. This is the first time I’ve ever seen my wife go out of her way to finish her glass as we got up to leave the table because she “didn’t want to waste any”. Not much tannin / structure which is most likely why my wife went gaga over it. If it were a little more complex, this would easily merit a couple more points, but why pick nits? I’m under strict spousal orders to find more. (93 pts.)

On a side note, my wife would have scored this a 96 at the minimum. I hesitated posting this note for a few days so I could find her a couple more bottles…yeah, that’s it - find her more. [whistle.gif] Now that we have 2 bottles of this village level and 2 of the 1ere Cru, it’s safe to rave about it publicly. [wink.gif] The anticipation level for the 1ere Cru is VERY high! We’ll wait a couple years before popping one of them though.

2007 is a wonderful vintage for drinking now. It won’t last as long as the more prestigious vintages, but who cares? Great note, Dennis.

The Chambolle 1er remains a relative bargain being young vine Musigny. When we visited last month there was talk that the vines are nearly at a sufficient age that the young vine cuvee may soon be a thing of the past.

That is an interesting bit of information Jeremy. I own a few bottles of several vintages, and always wondered if the vines were staggered in age and rotated into the old vine cuvée as they matured.

I love the 1er Cru bottling. Might have to grab up whatever I can find - bottle by bottle.
