Domaine Albert Mann Riesling Cuvee Albert, Alsace 2007
Light yellow. A little too cold at first showing only the bright tart lemon. Opens as it warms, very mineraly. Nice and vibrant but with some warmth and roundness. More minerals on the longish finish, a delight with the shrimp, pine nuts and raisins Lovely Riesling fruit, ripe but not too. Very fine and refreshing.
Lovely now and I expect it to morph over time into some other lovely place.
Oh and for a quaffer and big thumbs up in a party setting: Columbia Crest Grand Estates Columbia Valley Washington Cabernet 2006. Nothing compelling but about as good as it gets at $8/btl. Ripe, juicy and embarrassingly tasty.
This mid-level wine was delightful. Do you have any particular recommendations for the Grand Crus? I am more of a Riesling, Pinot Gris drinker than Gewurztraminer but I’ll try anything once!
I visited twice in the mid-90s and both times I was treated very well. I was even shown around some of the property and noticed some small barrique. “Pinot Gris experiement” nod wink!
As one entered the property courtyard, one could not miss all the rabbits in their living quarters.
