TN: 2007 Delas Frères Côtes du Rhône Saint-Esprit

Smooth, dark blackberry/cherry/plum/blueberry fruit…not much “Rhoneness”. Has some nice licorice, clove spice, marinated in orange juice meat. I don’t get any pepper, which is a MUST in Rhone…and you can tell the “cheapness” with the tell tale red wine vinegar-ness. For $9…it really is an ok CdR…a wine to cook and sip with imo. (88 pts.)

Completely agree. This is an 87 pointer to me. Don’t know what made RP see 90.

A completely inconsistent wine to me. Some bottles are very nice and rich up front fruit and others (maybe the majority) are sour, pugnant, horse manure nose and dreadful. I would average them out at less than 85 since the bad have outweighed the few good.

tremendous bottle variation here…
there are different label stickers out there…

What Scott and Jack said.

3 btls drank, 3 btls sucked.

One of the few times that RMP’s notes are completely inconsistent with mine.

I think this wine kinda almost sucks but maybe it will be better in time…if not, who cares with all the other winners in 2007 CDR. A bit lean and mean for me, certainly not an opulently texured wine.

Went through a case of this stuff from Costco…truly outstanding QPR. Must have gotten the good lots delivered here to Tejas.

I think that this is a great QPR, but I have have had some bad bottles. Like a previous poster said, its a great wine to cook and sip. Its a go to wine for my bastard version of coq au vin.

I have had way more good bottles than bad (I have gone through 10 bottles from a case), but the bad ones were unpleasant to drink.

I just thought it was bland. Didn’t suck but didn’t make me reach for a second glass.

I had two bad bottles… I bought the first because of all the positive notes and the second one because I thought, jeez, I must be wrong, but then it was just as bad as the first. Well, guess what? I was gifted with this a few days ago and it wasn’t so bad. It was good to cook with anyway. I guess the third time’s the charm.

A bottle drunk last night was pretty good.

It is mostly syrah, so leaner than your usual grenache-based CdR.
It isn’t from CA, so leaner than your usual syrah.

But totally drinkable for the price. (must have been a good bottle)
