2007 Dain Wines Syrah Abner Las Madres Vineyard - USA, California, Sonoma County, Carneros (10/3/2009)
This threw me for a bit. It opened like a nice evenly balanced Napa Cab both on the nose and the forward part of the palate, but once it hits the mid-palate it showed pure syrah. Great black and red plums, some cherry, some pomegranate, and some creamy-cassis. Pure and clean with fine delineated lines, this is gorgeous. A mid weight wine. There is some very fine white pepper, and some soy and crushed pebbles… I can understand how some may say simple, but I say delish. Wines should not come with a certain GPA minimum to be enjoyed, and this has some show, structure, elegance and pretty black and red fruits all singing in harmony–and a solid 3.6. Grabbed a handful at closeout. Wish I had grabbed 4 handfuls. (90 pts.)
