Tasted and traded for last weekend, this 07 WV PN has a classic nose of “sous bois” or matsutaki mushroom, forest floor, red cherry and a bit of a savory note. This has nice structure, with bright acidity and a long, focused cherry, orange peel and cedar box finish. The oak only adds to the mouthfeel. It has good complexity, fruit, and balance, and is a very impressive “entry level” PN from an outstanding producer. One of the better/best QPR’s I found this last weekend.
Guys… don’t miss this 07 vintage in Oregon. I’m serious.
Finishing this on the third night, this has gained in weight ,in the mid pallate, and developed even more complexity on the nose. This is one to buy a case of, as it will age well for many years, given the structure and elegance of this bottling. Simply outstanding!
Thanks for the note. I have one on deck. I like when the mt jeff is young and stemmy. I always plan to save more than I do.

Thanks John. I was so put off by the 06 ripeness that I’ve been slow looking in to their 07s. Listed abv? I’m assuming no heat? Have you tried any of the SVDs?

Steve was very gracious with me and poured me all the 06’s, all the 07’s(released so far) and then a verticle of the Estate Reserve from 97-2002. I was blown away with the 07’s. The 07 SVD’s are, IMO, worlds better than the 06’s, with huge matzutaki mushroom, forest floor, and spice aromas, and bright, vervy, spicy red fruits on the palate-absolutely gorgeous wines. I traded Steve for a couple of each of the SVD’s and the Mt J. The Mt Jeff was only a slight step down from the Jessie-which was incredible with tart, spicy raspberry, and the Eileen- with nice pure cherry and spice- both showing great balance yet wound from their youth at the same time. I would highly recommend buying these.
Kimberly and I have already had both bottles of Mt. Jeff(before commiting to a case or two) and it was stunning on both occasions.
I was generally amazed at how much the 07’s had improved over the last year. Not a vintage to pass up, given your palate preference. Brick House’s Cuvee De T., and Les Dijonaise where both outstanding as well.
Another treat was Tim Ramey’s- Zenith 07’s
Appreciate the update John. I’ve been going deep on 07s and that streak will likely continue (including BH Dijonnais).

I really like Cristom. If I had more money to spend on wine, Id buy them.
