TN: 2007 Coudert Fleurie Clos de la Roilette

2007 Coudert Fleurie Clos de la Roilette

Light in color and body, with a lovely Pinot-like nose of strawberries and earth. Very crisp and fruity on the palate-- an excellent foil to our decadently rich hamburgers tonight at Cafe Castagna. I’ve allowed previous vintages of this wine to age a solid five years before opening, but I’m not sure the '07 needs it. ~$21 retail, and I plan to buy a half case or so for mostly short-term consumption.

I haven’t had the 2007 vintage, but that’s been a very reliable bottling for me.

Indeed, Al. The '02, '04, and '05 have all been enjoyable. Have you had any experience with the '06 Cuvée Tardive? I only have one, so I’m wondering how long to hold it.

I don’t think I’ve tried any of their '06’s. Alas, so many wines and not enough meals.

Austere and structured notes of wood smoke, charcuterie, plums, and blackberries. Finishes long with a touch of fruitcake. An enjoyable and interesting wine. (88 pts.)

Thanks for the notes… I had a bottle of the '08 (regular bottling) last week that was most unhappy to be consumed. It did not show well at all, very disjointed. I’m hoping some more time in the cellar with help with my remaining bottles.

I had half a bottle of the '09 regular bottling last night (the other half awaits tonight). Let’s just say, I’ve already purchased more of this (and the '09 tardive) than anything else I’ve ever bought… and I’m thinking about going back for more. Just wonderful stuff. It tastes so good right now, but there is so much obvious potential that will come out with some time in the cellar I almost feel guilty, it should be spectacular in 5 years.

At a tasting a year ago, the 07 Tardive impressed me more than the regular cuvee but I’m not surprised that bottle time is helping. Not planning on touching the Tardive for a couple years, willpower depending.
