TN: 2007 Copain Tous Enselmble, Mendicino County

This is my last bottle of the 2007, somehow it got squirreled away in my wine locker, otherwise I suspect it would have been consumed long ago. I purchased it (and a few more bottles) after visiting the winery for the first time during the Winter Wineland weekend in 2009.
This wine opens with a nice light strawberry/floral nose. More complicated than I’m used to getting from many blends, but not quite in the same league as the 2007 Baker Pinot from Copain I had last year. On the palate, there is initially a little tightness, but after about 15 minutes in the glass, things really start to open up. Fresh, juicy strawberries, pine needles, and mushroom/forest floor flavors interplay wonderfully, and there is absolutely fantastic mid-palate weight. Finish is long and lingering, with a lively tingle of acidity. Mmmmm!! I find myself not wanting to rush sips so I can make certain I thoroughly enjoyed the last one.

This is the wine that sold me on Copain, it is hands down the best sub $30 American pinot noir I have ever had the privilege of tasting. It’s not just a great blend, it’s a great pinot, period. I really wish I had some more :frowning:

Hi Matt,

Great note, and I agree this is one of the best QPRs out there. Sorry this was your last bottle. I’d be happy to share one of my 14 remaining if you’re ever out East!

cheers,
scott
