This is my last bottle of the 2007, somehow it got squirreled away in my wine locker, otherwise I suspect it would have been consumed long ago. I purchased it (and a few more bottles) after visiting the winery for the first time during the Winter Wineland weekend in 2009.
This wine opens with a nice light strawberry/floral nose. More complicated than I’m used to getting from many blends, but not quite in the same league as the 2007 Baker Pinot from Copain I had last year. On the palate, there is initially a little tightness, but after about 15 minutes in the glass, things really start to open up. Fresh, juicy strawberries, pine needles, and mushroom/forest floor flavors interplay wonderfully, and there is absolutely fantastic mid-palate weight. Finish is long and lingering, with a lively tingle of acidity. Mmmmm!! I find myself not wanting to rush sips so I can make certain I thoroughly enjoyed the last one.
This is the wine that sold me on Copain, it is hands down the best sub $30 American pinot noir I have ever had the privilege of tasting. It’s not just a great blend, it’s a great pinot, period. I really wish I had some more
