2007 Cháteau la Courançonne Côtes du Rhône Villages Plan de Dieu Gratitude - France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Côtes du Rhône Villages Plan de Dieu (8/25/2009)
Opened this for a glass of wine on Tuesday night. Follow up on Wednesday night.
Night #1 - nose is meaty/gamey with dark fruit, vanilla, plum and white pepper. The palate is a little rough and chewy at first with nice concentration of ripe fruit, vanilla, spice, black pepper, iodine. About an hour in, the palate smoothed out and showed a little more polish and violets. Shows a little grapey, which is what you might expect from something that is $15. Very nice
Night #2 - nose is toned down and shows more crushed rock and asphalt. Tannins are a little more prominent as some of the fruit has faded a touch. But still a little chalky palate presence, nice dark fruit/plum, spice and pepper. Finish is a little on the short side today. Still a very nice CdR Villages and well worth the $15. 88-89 pts (88 pts.)
