2007 Château Cantelauze Cahors Quartier d’été - France, Southwest France, Cahors (7/12/2009)
Thick meaty wine with lots of midpalate weight in the vein of a Bandol so I would have guessed a Mouvedre based rose but then I’ve never had one of Malbec before. Cherry and rhubarb flavors stick out from a lengthy fat palate leading to a grip that is a wee bit bitter. Interesting wine that may benefit from some more bottle time to lean out the thickness but I’m not sure the acidity is there to warrant further experiments.
Note: Do not serve this at room temperature as it will only deliver bitter notes and a lack of fruit. Closer to a big red wine than one would think of a rose.
