2007 Benovia Chardonnay Sonoma Coast - USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast (1/28/2010)
We opened this last night to accompany seared scallops with a hazelnut and meyer lemon cream. Nice match.
The wine shows a very nice nose of herbs, wet rocks, pear and lemon rind. The palate is medium weight and lively with lots of meyer lemon, a little bitter herb, roasted hazelnut and a hint of white chocolate all with very refreshing acidity. Finish is medium length and the wine has a very nice presence across the whole palate. I like what Mike Sullivan is doing at Benovia. 90-91/100 (91 pts.)

Nice note. I didn’t know Benovia made a chard!
Yes, a very enticing note. I don’t know the Benovia label but it seems that it is time for me to learn.
Mike Sullivan formerly the winemaker at Hartford Court is part owner and winemaker at benovia. The main owner is Joe Anderson who owns the Cohn Vineyard. If that sounds familiar it’s bc KB used to make a Cohn Vineyard Pinot Noir. Mike is also a classmate of Ed Kurtzman when both were at Fresno State.
I knew there was a reason I liked those wines!
Cheers!

Hey Marshall. So was jeff Cohn of JC Cellars!!!
While I do like the Benovia pinots, I think their zin is my favorite in their lineup. It’s truly special.
