TN: 2006 Windy Oaks Estate Pinot Noir Proprietor's Reserve

  • 2006 Windy Oaks Estate Pinot Noir Proprietor’s Reserve Schultze Family Vineyard - USA, California, San Francisco Bay, Santa Cruz Mountains (3/18/2009)
Popped this and poured a little in a glass while letting the bottle sit open for a few hours. Lots of red cherry on the nose mixed with some slight floral notes and you can detect a touch of oak on the nose. Nice upfront acidity and the fruit takes center stage on the palate with a healthy dose of oak which, while fairly heavy, doesn’t overpower everything else and the complete package shows incredible balance from start to finish. Outstanding wine with a ton of potential for future improvement if you can keep your hands off them. (94 pts.)

Great note Rob, thank you!

Those interested in more information on Windy Oaks should check out the March 13 issue of Pinotfile.

I read the pdf sent by Judy from WO. All it does is make me more excited about their wines. [good.gif]

Sometimes I wonder why I buy any other Pinot than WO. I’ve stockpiled a ton over the last few years and it gets better every time I open one.

After this bottle, I know how you feel.

Really don’t see a need for many other CA pinots in my cellar.

That’s a nice list, I totally agree.

My list has to have WH Smith and Sea Smoke in place of a couple of those but yeah… close enough.

It’s amazing that over the last year I have accumulated so much PN from so many mailers. I fell victim to “mailer madness” and recently had a moment of sanity and decided that I really need to drop off some lists and focus on my favorites instead of overpopulating my cellar the way it is now.

Ha! Exactly the same list here. Uh, Kutch, too.
Thanks for the note, Rob.
This sounds great. Sitting on my reserves for a while.

Rob - agreed great wine. I’m thinking they need 5-6 years.

Russ/Dennis - my list is a little longer, but those guys are on it

While I probably agree with you Tim, there is no way I will be able to sit on them, as much as I would like to. :frowning:
