Color is a light yellow-gold; nose has that white fruit cocktail, slate & petrol mixture that I often get in Austrian riesling, although the petrol accent is not too overt for those in the audience with an aversion to this scent.
Not a hard edge to be found on the palate - just ripe fruit braced by adequate, but not pronounced, acidity. If my recall is correct, this was a wine that David Schildknect exhibited some concern about on release due to overall balance - I think he specifically cited the 14.5% alcohol in mentioning this. I believe this is the last bottle from a case I bought on release, and I can safely say that the wine must have come together after time in the bottle, as I’ve always found it delicious, and it has developed more nuance and elegance with age. Unfortunately, I won’t be able to see where the wine heads with another five years in the bottle, but I still have some bottles left from the 2005 vintage, so we’ll have to “settle” for those in the future .
