TN: 2006 Tor Rock Kenward Family Napa Syrah Hommage Allan Judge Family Vineyard

Color: Beautiful deep purple, almost ink like with a pinkish glow at rim.

Nose: Wasn’t shy at all. As soon as the cork was popped, the aroma of blackberry, plum, and other dark fruits filled the air.

Taste: Big taste of dark fruits and currants but not a fruit bomb, great depth and balance. Supposed to be 14.7% alcohol but I could not detect it. Nice structure and rich mouth feel.

Overall, it went very well with the carne asada that we were having for dinner. Certainly one of the better syrah I had this year, comparable to Jaffurs’ Verna’s. (92 pts.)

Could not agree more with you on your notes. The fruit for this wine comes from my neighbor, Joe Judge, who is a great grape grower in Bennett Valley. I brought a bottle of this along to Wally Kerr’s Syrah Smackdown (notes posted on another board) this year and it placed either third or fourth among over twenty wines. I remember the wine displaying wonderful balance and complexity without any heaviness. Definitely my style of Syrah.

Sounds great. I am a big fan of Bennett Valley wines in general. I’m confused by the name? Both the length and the inclusion of the word “Napa”?

Nate,

Tor Kenward is located in Napa but the fruit from the Judge family Vineyard in Bennett Valley. If I remeber correctly there is some Grenache in this wine also. Very tasty bottle of wine.
