TN: 2006 Tor Rock Kenward Family Napa Grenache and 2005 de Ladoucette Pouilly-Fumé

  • 2006 Tor Rock Kenward Family Napa Grenache Cuvée Cooper Judge Family Vineyard - USA, California, Sonoma County, Bennett Valley (8/27/2009)
Dark purple in color and scents of black cherry, tar, and leather. Fine tannins and flavors of black cherry, plum, and meat. With each bottle that I drink from this winery, I grow more impressed. (90 pts.)
  • 2005 de Ladoucette Pouilly-Fumé - France, Loire Valley, Upper Loire, Pouilly-Fumé (8/23/2009)
This was my only bottle, probably a throw in included in a case of mostly red burgundy and chablis I purchased in an auction from Morrell. Light golden in color. On the nose, muted scents of peach and green apple. The acidity and minerality hit the palate full stride along with flavors of pineapple, ripe guava, and green mango. Crisp and quite enjoyable. A very pleasant surprise. l (91 pts.)

Tor Kenward sources some really, really nice fruit, but, along the way, legions of oak forests get sacrificed to Dionysius in order to bring the finished product to market.
