2006 Tercero Cuvée Christie - USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Barbara County (12/17/2009)
I was actually nervous when I opened this for a couple reasons. First, Larry seems like a great guy from the boards and it’s easy to want him to succeed. Second, based on other comments, I went for a mixed case but would be pretty disappointed if I didn’t like the first Tercero wine I had and there were 11 others to go. Twisted and poured, nice nose of red fruit with a kick of spice. On the palate this was just so juicy and vibrant. Lovely fruit, and about an hour in the fruit got backed up by a very nice earthiness. What really got me about this wine was despite the alcohol at 15.1% it just drank so light on its feet in a good way. Muscular but feminine does not work for me with women but it does with wine and that’s what this was. Outstanding effort. (91 pts.)

This sums up all the Tercero’s I have tried to date. The Cuvee Christie rocked when I tried it. Always have to praise the fair prices too. Nothing has really disappointed me to date. I thought the 2006 Grenache Watch Hill needs some time in bottle to gain more depth and complexity but the others were great out of the gate…and young. Look forward to trying to save a few to put some years on them.

Thanks y’all! Glad that you’re enjoying these! Can’t wait for more of you to try my 07’s . . .
Cheers!
Loved my 06 when I drank it earlier this year. My other bottle keeps calling my name, but I promised myself to revisit this wine mid 2010. I’m weak.
Totally delicious wine. It’ll probably benefit from another year or two in cellar, but I really enjoyed the bottles I had. Just marvelous style. Great purity of fruit.
