TN: 2006 Tablas Creek Grenache Blanc (USA, California, Central Coast, Paso Robles)

  • 2006 Tablas Creek Grenache Blanc - USA, California, Central Coast, Paso Robles (6/8/2009)
Solid wine from a very consistent producer. Slightly shy on the nose but some white flowers and minerals, oily texture, good acidity, short crisp finish. Good drinking for a quick glass just coming in from work on a hot day in the PNW. (88 pts.)

Phillip - thanks for the note. FWIW, that was my impression of the wine as well a little while back

I’ll third that! Tasty wine.

According to CellarTracker, I have a single bottle of the 2003 Grenache Blanc left. I should crack it soon and see how it’s holding up. Thanks for the prod.

I would think this stuff ages fairly well. Be sure to post a note.

Kind of slumming tonight aren’t you Phil? I was expecting a note on a white burg.

I can’t go big money Saxon every night like you. [1974_eating_popcorn.gif]

nice note, Phil [berserker.gif] … I had nearly the exact same impression of this wine a few months ago:

3/15/2009
– tasted non-blind at Tablas Creek tasting room –

NOSE: minerals; honeysuckle; light florals

BODY: pale yellow-white color of moderate depth; clear; light-medium bodied.

TASTE: very light on the palate, showing nice minerality and lanolin. Alcohol (15.3%) can be tasted on the palate. Short finish. On the acidic side of well-balanced.

B: 50, 5, 11, 15, 6 = 87

That is true. I had a bottle of the '04 Bergeron the other night and it was still very nice. I forgot to take notes. [rolleyes.gif]

OK - the '03 is out of the cellar and in the fridge. We’ll likely open it this weekend and I’ll definitely post a note. I also need to get to the 2002 Roussanne and 2002 Vermentino - yikes.

Looking forward to it Ken. Let us know how they are.

One data point about grenache blancs as they age - they tend to develop more of a waxy, honeyed midpalate a la an aged White Rhone . . . In fact, I’ve found with my own Grenache Blancs, as well as they ones from Epiphany, that they can also take on an aged Riesling ‘petrol’ nose as well . . .quite interesting . . .

Cheers!

This I didn’t know, as I love Grenache Blanc so much young, one never makes it long enough to find out!

I might have to buy some more and stick one WAY in the back of the cellar!

In the spirit of the thread I am going to open a 2005 as a cocktail wine in about ten minutes. Will post my impression.
