2006 Sine Qua Non Syrah Raven Series - USA, California (5/25/2009)
Decanted for two hours at cellar temp. Quite lovely. Smoky, meaty and oaky on the nose with a hint of menthol. The palate is a cavalcade of juicy red and black fruit, stunningly light on its feet with a nice dose of acidity. I expected this to be bigger, hotter, meatier and chunkier, but the beauty of this wine is its subtlety. More savory than sweet and more red than black, the more time I spend with this the more obvious the structure is, especially without food. Still, for a large wine the sheer genius of this is the utter silken texture and polish of the tannins. Utterly delicious. (95 pts.)
