TN: 2006 Rudius Syrah (USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley)

  • 2006 Rudius Syrah - USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley (10/31/2009)
Decanted 3 hours, enjoyed over the following 3. Inky black color. Wonderfully balanced wine, showing baked plums, salinity, iron, stone. As with all of Jeff’s wines, the mouthfeel is extraordinary, rich and opulent, sublime and complex. Not a hint of alcohol shows through. One of those wines that keeps me excited about this passion we share.

Brian,

Thanks for the note. Just transferred mine from storage today and will probably wait a few weeks to open one. I did find an 06 RRV at Wally’s in LA and drank it about 6 weeks ago. I couldn’t agree with you more - superb wine and great value. Although the '05 RRV is drinking great today, I think the '06 RRV will be even better in short order. I’ll have to try them side by side.

Cheers, [cheers.gif]

almost opened one today.opened the alder springs… what a monster of a wine

Steve,

I agree with your assessment of the 05 RRV, its really in a good place right now. I had one about a month ago, here’s my TN:

  • 2005 Rudius Syrah - USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley (9/26/2009)
Popped and poured, enjoyed over two hours. This continues to develop in the bottle and has started to become very special. Well balanced, black fruits, tonight the cracked pepper was very prevalent but offset by the profound taste and smell of osso bucco. Really interesting and complex. Delicious with food. Early in its drinking window, this has the stuff to last another 10 years.

Charlie,

Which Alder Springs? I’ve only had the Emerald Pool, it was sensational.
