TN: 2006 Rudius Grenache

I got 3 bottles today and I have no idea when I ordered the wine.

This is one of the biggest, fattest wine I’ve ever had. This is bacon fat wine…just this simple. Yes, later it shows red floral notes.

This is as good as great Alban or SQN wines, but I hope at much better prices. I actually still don’t know how I much I paid for this.

Chris, how about 4 2004 Corra, 3 2005 Futo and I’ll throw in a Grenache for $1000 in toto.

I drank a bottle last night and it didn’t really scream ‘bacon fat’ at me.

I thought the wine was super solid, maybe a little young if anything. Didn’t hit me as over fruit-i-fied or the like. Got better and better with more air and really mellowed out after a few hours in the decanter.

I emailed Jeff earlier this week asking about the cabernet allocations for we newbies (last spring was my first allocation) and told him I was anxious to try the '06 Grenache that I had just received that day. Here is a part of his reply:

“As far as the Grenache goes. It seems to be going through a closed phase right now so I would wait a year maybe or if you want to try one right off the bat then take a small taste and see what you think but I would have a decanter ready.”

I’m going to try to wait a bit before diving in. (Got my allocation of cabs as well…3 of '07 and 6 of '08 futures!).

Was that really the 07 Grenache or the 06? I didn’t think the 07 was out yet (unless you were there at the winery).

This is the 06 Grenache. I am happy that I finished most of the wine last night as tonight the wine is quite closed down. It is very tight, not letting much through. A night and day contrast from last night to tonight.

My mistake. I was in a hurry when I made the post and I have '07s on my mind I guess. I was talking about the '06; as was Jeff. I’ll change it in the post.
