2006 Rudi Pichler Grüner Veltliner Smaragd Wösendorfer Kollmütz- Austria, Niederösterreich, Wachau (6/5/2010)
Consumed over two nights and this definitely got better with lot’s of air. Lemon, stone, and white pepper nose.
Spicy palate-white pepper, a bit of lychee, stone, lemon, lemon rind, nice lingering finish.
Young,fresh,food friendly. (92 pts.)
Rudi Pichler got awarded "Winemaker of the year by the Austrian FALSTAFF-magazine … definitely deserved.
I don´t know this particular wine, but I like his style very much - at least those wines that remain in the really dry range. (some have a bit high RS for my taste).
As you might well know Smaragd is the highest level in the region WACHAU with the best ripeness …
Usually his (Wösendorfer) Hochrain and (Weisskirchner) Achleiten are even more impressive …
Thanks for the input!
This is a real nice wine. I didn’t like it quite as much as IWC which dropped a 96 on it. The alcohol is north of 14 which I was a little surprised by although I do not drink a ton of Gruner Veltliner. Can’t get enough Austrian Wine of late must be the weather.
