2006 Rivers-Marie Cabernet Sauvignon- USA, California, Napa Valley (9/23/2009)
Popped another earlier than I planed but it was a good choice. I enjoyed this bottle more. One thing for sure with the 04 and 06 is they are pop and pour, although the 04 seems to be moving out of that stage. Big rich red and black fruits, held together by light acidity and light tannin. Just what the doctor ordered on this night. (90 pts.)
I found these to drink really well upon release and then subsequent bottles suggested a nap. Been 6 months since my last one? Maybe time to check in again, as I really do enjoy them and fortunately, Thomas keeps making more and offering them to me. Thanks for the heads up.
I haven’t tried the 06 Cab yet, but if this is anything even close to TRB’s other 06s, which I tried from barrel, then I should be very, very happy.
Personally, I think these wines require a minimum of 5yrs of cellaring to really strut their stuff. I had an '04 recently and was “wowed”, that wine never showed so well early on.
Mark; Thanks for your note…I really enjoy the Rivers-Marie cabs but consider them to be ageworthy and not really pop and pour wines.
I am tempted to retry the 2003 and 2004 in the near future.
Cheers!
Marshall
I don’t mean to say the aren’t age-worthy, just that in their youth, they are best as pop and pours. As I mentioned, the 04 seems to be moving out of it’s youthful richness. The 03 always seemed to be a little more austere IMO.

My last bottle, and kinda sad about it. Yes, this is a big, extracted, oak-influenced, rich, beautiful, perfumed, deeply fruited, complex and interesting wine. If you don't like big extraction, this isn't for you, but it is balanced. A damn fun and interesting wine, I love it. (94 points)
