2006 Rhys Chardonnay Alpine Vineyard - USA, California, San Francisco Bay, Santa Cruz Mountains (7/12/2009)
What a wonderful wine to open on a hot summer evening on the deck at the end of a loooong weekend. Wonderful integration of fruit and acidity. Not buttery at all. Fresh and zesty, citrus and pear. Absolutely delightful to drink right now. I will hold my other bottle for a few months but I don’t think it will last the year. It is drinking so nicely right now I am sure it will get opened sooner than later.

Bonnie - did you decant this wine at all? The last time I had it, it was left open to air for at least 2-3 hours, and it seemed to help quite a bit.
Nope, this was pop and pour. I was impressed. I think it did change some over a bit of time but we were busy visiting and talking. I know the second glass got my attention so perhaps a bit of air might be advisable. I think I will open our other bottle at Thanksgiving. I like chardonnay as the opening, sipping wine before any food makes an appearance.
By the way, I just “stumbled” upon this website. I have been “inactive” on Mark’s bb for a number of months so I missed the hoopla. It will take me a while to figure out how to move around this one but it looks like a number of my favorite wine tasters are posting here.
Glad you tripped over the welcome mat and found yourself here!
This is a freaking awesome wine. Easily my New World Chard of the year so far. Well, okay … maybe not quite so easily. The 2007 Swan Estate is awesome, too. But the Rhys blew me away.
