2006 Rhys Alesia Pinot Noir San Mateo County - USA, California, San Francisco Bay, San Mateo County (9/27/2009)
Maybe there is a lot of bottle variation…because although my last bottle was very average, the bottle tonight was fantastic. Very nice leafy earth and plum. A delicious herbacious-ness to it and a lovely, elegant finish and texture. Lovely bottle of wine.

I love this wine–truly a wine of intense pleasure for a good price.
I love this declassified Family Farm.
This is true pleasure for the money as you guys have stated.
Thanks for the note here.
I have been wanting to pop one.
Looks like I should.
This wine really is getting better. Delicious stuff.
Popped a bottle about a week ago and was again impressed.
At $25 too! ![winner [winner.gif]](/uploads/db3686/original/2X/0/07ec25c9fd71159fe15d7f1ba5fad64e91238d0e.gif)
I’ve been holding off, since early notes indicated there was some issue with oak balance, but people were projecting better integration with a short slumber. Looks like I need to check in. Thanks
I noted a huge difference in the wine between opening my first bottle last November, when I found it to be rather simple and candied, and the bottled opened last month which showed less overt sweetness and some brett/barnyard that gave it complexity. I did not order extra the first go round based upon the first bottle but picked up a few more with today’s email.
I have not heard brett in this bottling?
There is no Brett in this bottling. There is a lot of stem based earthy aromatics that can be confused with Brett.
Ordered 6 in late spring, so still waiting on those to be delivered. Between that order and the recent fall offering, thats a lot of bottles coming to a wine cellar near you. ![berserker [berserker.gif]](/uploads/db3686/original/2X/8/8600bbd4810d342b8fbd4ffb62b4f0026275fd37.gif)
Well, there you have it. See what happens when amateurs post notes. I did not mean to imply that there was a flaw in the wine but the earthiness and hint of barnyard came across to me generally in the same way I have perceived brett in some CDPs. I really liked this in the second bottle of the San Mateo I tasted (prompting me to order a few more yesterday). Thanks, Kevin, for the explanation and education.
now its sold out and i cant find the lone bottle i do have. ugh
Just received a Rhys shipment and am sipping this as I type. Steffen provided a nice description - this is really a pleasure! ![[welldone.gif] [welldone.gif]](/uploads/db3686/original/2X/f/fc9709a841aa9379fd892a9cf0b535b05f473b86.gif)
I have 2 bottles of this left. I don’t see them making it past Thanksgiving ![cry [cry.gif]](/uploads/db3686/original/2X/8/853b6e76c6e8406be77a6727c2a27ad1672678b3.gif)
I burned through a third of case already. Great wine to bring to parties. Everyone loves it and it’s a relative bargain for the quality.
Had an opportunity to try one a couple of weeks ago in a blind pairing and found it quite acceptable if not particularly noteworthy. With so many raves, your theory seems plausible.
