Popped this new wine last night.
Anybody familiar with these guys?
Really terrific stuff here.
2006 Rhys Alesia Pinot Noir San Mateo County- USA, California, San Francisco Bay, San Mateo County (9/10/2009)
Terrific showing again. Spicy, smoky nose. Cranberry and sandalwood too. There’s a stemmy-spicy note with the cherry palate this is just delicious. The herbal notes stayed with me all night…nice. Crazy good value here.
Thanks, SL. Same to you.
Brad-Have had three bottles since May, all have been great.
However, the wine shows a bit of structure and youthfulness.
I don’t get the sense 2-3 years will bring significant changes, but it certainly won’t hurt either. Fun wine. Drink one now if you have a few.
My two bottles improved dramatically after 1.5-2 hours open/decanted. I no guarantees, but I would deduce that better days are ahead in a few years. In the end, this is estate fruit that in normal years would be Rhys.
Errol,
That’s our hope as well. This year we are managing the vineyard in order to make two wines - a Family Farm VD and a Rhys San Mateo Appellation wine.
We have about 50 cases (out of 1000 made) left. Should we offer it again to the mailing list? I was intending to sell it to restaurants as I figured you guys had all that you want!
I would say yes. In fact, before even seeing this thread I had emailed Josh yesterday asking whether you had any left. He said that you did, so I replied back with an order for a case. So when you get inundated with orders, make sure to save me one.
