Hadn’t popped one of these in a while, so I got busy last night.

2006 Rhys Alesia Pinot Noir Green Valley - USA, California, Sonoma County, Green Valley (12/17/2010)
I think is my favorite '06 Alesia, and it’s still not at its peak yet, imo. Still very primary with red fruit and smoky-cinnamon on the nose. There’s a good bit of fruit here, black/tart cherry really coats the palate, but there’s a spicy-herbal note, too. Very powerful palate presence without being heavy (as my friend, Bob Fleming would say). Nice stuff again, and “ready” for the most part, but better times still to come.

Thanks Dennis. Time to fish one of those out. I was surprised to find I had no notes on that wine. I know have tasted it but must have been lazy.

Hey Jason.
Certainly take one for a spin. It’s good now in a still primary and youthful kinda way.
Enjoy the holidays. Hope to catch you around again soon.
I also had this wine last night, along with several other 2006’s from Sonoma Coast from other producers. The Alesia was the clear class of the field in this small tasting. It was even better this morning… 12 hours in decanter, and the stem influence had evolved into a spicy thing with mineral notes. Outstanding wine, better with substantial aeration IMO.
BTW, the '06 Rivers-Marie wines (Summa Vineyard and Summa Old Vines) showed poorly alongside the Alesia, very all-up-front fruity and a soft, pillowy texture, almost blowsy. JM2C.
