I picked up a mixed case of 2006 Bourgogne Rouges lately and figured what the heck, I’m thirsty, and I am really, really digging the 2006 reds. There is a purity in them that is really beguiling. So opening this was a no-brainer, even with pizza.
-2006 Raphet Bourgogne Rouge
Right from the get-go, this was all bright brambly raspberries, with hints of darker fruits and berries. On the palate, the wine was a bit lemony and shrill, but seemed to be holding back a bit. As it breathed, the smell intensified, and the palate smoothed out and filled out, while losing that citrusy aspect but retaining a real lovely purity of bright red fruits similar to the nose. The structure is really nicely balanced from start to finish, which is fruitily tannic, but quite nice in length and depth.
It was yesterday. Of course, I did go out and get 3 bottles of 1989 Gonon St Joseph just now, but they won’t be delivered for a few days so it doesn’t count as today. [nea.gif]
Jason, sorry I didn’t see your post, Leah’s got your back.
I see the 06 Les Grands Champs listed … is that the bottle from your note? Still a great price but a lot more than the $14 I paid for the 05 Bourgogne.
Day 2= the wine has put on body-weight and has become sweeter on the attack and more sour on the back-end, basically more of everything. Man this is good wine. I am so happy to have a case.
