TN: 2006 Quinta do Crasto Old Vine Reserva

A little late posting the first TN, but had another bottle last night that was just as good.

Cracked this about an hour ago after the last glass of a 2007 Kopke Douro Branco. This showed well from the get go with plenty of blackberries overlaying some oak, earth, and green peppers. Plenty going on here for sure and while it has plenty of youthful fruit, it isn’t over extracted or unbalanced. It cuts a fine line of ripe fruit that is nicely offset by moderate tannins and lengthy finish. I so wish I had a nice medium rare steak to enjoy with this right now. Glad I’ve got a number more of these to enjoy as they age for the next 8-10 years. 91 points

Had another bottle of this last night…this time paired with a medium rare steak [winner.gif] Pretty much consistent with the other tasting note, except I decanted this about 2 hours and then drank it over the next 2 hours. 09/13/09

Andy,
I’ve been waiting for the release of this wine, but I must have missed it! Where are you finding this? I haven’t seen it at any of my regular haunts in the L.A. area. TIA.

No it’s not easy to find. Broadbent imports has finally released these on the west coast about 4-6 weeks ago. They have been showing up slowly here and there. Unfortunitly the price has gone up a tad on the 2006 version due to the weak dollar vs. Euro when the deal was struck on pricing. Hopefully the 2007 version comes down a bit…and I will say the 2007 version rocks. I’ve had samples of it just after it was bottled this summer and it is easily on par with the 2004 version, if not better. But time will tell on that.

I’ll PM you the store info that has it in LA.

Thanks, Andy. I’d be willing to go up to $45 on this, so hopefully your source can do that. If not, I’ll just bide my time waiting for the '07. [berserker.gif]
