TN: 2006 Quilceda Creek Red Wine Columbia Valley (USA, Washington, Columbia Valley)

  • 2006 Quilceda Creek Red Wine Columbia Valley - USA, Washington, Columbia Valley (3/16/2012)
Beautiful floral nose with red fruits and a hint of mint. Nice bright red fruits, crushed stone and minerals with a touch of blueberries. Beautiful full lush mouth feel with a medium to dark color. I passed on the flagship this spring but I will load up on these in the fall. (92 pts.)

Nice note, thanks. I happend to open up a bottle of this tonight:

  • 2006 Quilceda Creek Red Wine Columbia Valley - USA, Washington, Columbia Valley (3/19/2012)
Popped and poured. Medium-plus deep garnet/purple hue, still quite youthful. Aromatically forward upon pouring and showing fruit, with moderately complex notes of blackberry, blueberry, creme de cassis, vanilla bean, herbs, earth, and a subtle floral note. Medium-plus body, silky mouthfeel. Nothing subtle about the flavors in mouth, this shows a great core of fresh black and red fruits along with hints of herbs, root vegetables, and earth along with spice and smoke from toasted oak. The tannins are somewhat chewy and astringent but push the fruit flavors through on the moderate-plus close. Moderate acidity. This is drinking quite nicely at present but should be even better with a few more years. All-in-all, just a really nice vintage from Quilceda Creek of their second wine.
