I pulled this by accident, should have been wearing my reading glasses or paying attention or turned on some more lights.
Anyway as I was driving away from the wine storage facility I noticed that I had grabbed the wrong wine.
Oh well, how bad could it be?
Pretty bad…
Extremely ripe perhaps dare I say over ripe
Very Oaky, " " " " " Oaked.
If I was served this blind I would peg it as South Australian shiraz.
very tiring to drink
Ouch. I haven’t had one of these in a long time, maybe it was the 98 or 99 and I remember it being very zesty, and oozing ham & pineapples.
Is his Cotes du Rhone any good? I see it around occasionally but it seems to be priced on higher end, so have yet to try it.
Im pretty sure he came from Guigal, and it kind of shows.
But Im sure that lots of people would like his wines, very modernist, international style.
Im guessing he picks pretty late, I found the wine to be hard work, but 15 years ago I might have thought it was the best rhone ever. anyway sort of glad I only have 2 left
I had the 2005 vintage last year. It was pretty over the top at first, but after 3 hours in decanter, it managed to shed the oak exterior and provide classic Cote Rotie flavors. Definitely a modern producer though.
I gave this 3 hours in the decanter, it just kept getting bigger and riper
