I just bought some wine from Pax (Mahle) today, so I thought I’d try this. This rocks.
14.9% alcohol.
Bright, dark ruby red. Very expressive floral and red fruit nose. On the palate, a BLAST of concentrated rasberries, blackberries and white pepper. Nice balance. Extreme focus and purity. An aftertaste that goes for about 45 seconds. 96 points.
I have alot of Pax wine around, although my order from Pax’s new venture today was my first in quite some time.
Sometimes Pax wine can disappoint. Sometimes it can be stunning. This was ultra stunning. Like a crazy Hermitage. I hope Pax’s new wines can compare.
I have been ordering from Wind Gap…but I do not know…when was the last vintage that Pax himself made at Pax…?
BTW, I am still on the “Pax” mailing list…and I wrote back…“Pax without Pax ain’t Pax…so remove me from the mailing list“
However…I still get mailings from them…so… go figure… (hey, I was going to enter the smiley shrug your shoulders like on Squires…but I can’t find it in the myriad of smileys that appear)
I haven’t bought anything from PWC since the 2006 vintage. Pax made most of the decisions on the 2007s, but it seems that no one (on this board) has tried any of those wines, nor the 08s from the new winemaker (Tyler Thomas?). So no, Pax without Pax shouldn’t be called Pax. I am curious about how those 07s turned out, at the very least, but not $60 curious when the real thing has relocated to Forestville and is doing great things with Wind Gap.
