TN: 2006 Pavelot Pernand-Vergelesses Les Vergelesses

This was one of the wines I took to a friend’s house last night for seder and it was the best of the bunch (05 Barthod Bourgogne, 05 Mortet Bourgogne, 05 Ferrando Carema white label, 06 Conterno Cascina Francia Barbera) so it gets the note.

This is a really terrific wine, at least for current consumption. Both lacey and intense and perfectly balanced. Fragrant and flavorful while light on the palate. Bummed that I only have one more as I’m always trying to figure out what’s in my cellar that shows well now and this is one. Just great.

I have one bottle of the 2009 vintage of this producer and vineyard. I hope it is equally good.

Thanks for the note Maureen.

It would seem that some '06 burgs are drinking well right now… I had a bottle of '06 JM Millot CdN Villages last night, aromatic flavorful and open for business… still mostly primary fruit, but a wonderful time to try one.

Excellent news. One very eminent Burgundian of my acquaintance maintains that the son doesn’t have the touch of the father, but I hope he is proved wrong!

Thanks for the note Maureen. I have really enjoyed a number of '06s lately. Most notably, a bottle of Mugneret-Gibourg Bourgogne.

I actually bought very few 06s (giving my checkbook and my storage space some rest after the craziness of the 05 vintage for one thing) and haven’t drunk all that many either - hence my term “ignored” in the thread asking us to assign one word descriptors to burgundy vintages. so I can’t speak generally to how 06s are showing other than this and a bertheau 1er cru, which I found closed a few months ago.

Thanks for the post Maureen. I have a 6 pack of this wine sitting in the cellar. I purchased these after tasting the wine several years ago…loved it and purchased. I’ll try another one soon.

Tom, when did the son take up the reins?

I’ll be very interested in your views, Roger.
