Paired with coq au vin at Tabla Bistro, this is undeniably a food wine. Vegetal and unyielding its own, the wine nicely complemented and cut through the rich flavors of the fowl. Loire reds are undeniably weird, especially for those accustomed to Parkerized fruit bombs, but the notes below are not representative of the quality of this wine.

I loved the 04 of this wine. It was noticeably bretty, but not obnoxiously so, and still had that ‘crunchy’ aspect that I only get in Loire Cab Franc. Definitely not a wine for everyone, but if you dig offbeat reds, this one is a winner.

“Crunchy” is a great term for it… I’d have called it “angular”, but in any case, it’s definitely intriguing and offbeat. While I can’t really imagine sitting down and sipping this on its own, I was really impressed with how well it complemented my food.

Thanks for the note. I just realized I have not yet tried any 06 Loire reds … I need to get goin.
