TN: 2006 Mumm Napa Blanc de Blancs

2006 Mumm Napa Blanc de Blancs - Popped and poured. Light yet pleasing aromatics of subtle toasty yeast, apples, pears and a hint of white flowers. Great tangy acidity. Lightweight flavors of granny smith apples predominate. The balance is nice. Not a complex barnburner but a tasty and refreshing wine. It might be a bit closed which would make this note premature. B+. I suspect it will gain some depth and a little complexity with age.

Berry,

I haven’t tasted these in years. I am going to pick some up based on the notes you’ve been posting. Are you a fan of Argyle or Soter sparkling from Oregon? Mountain Dome from Washington or Gruet from New Mexico?

I suspect you would be based on these notes.

Never tried Soter. Its been forever since Ive tried Argyle so dont really remember. Never heard of Mountain Dome but think Gruet makes great wines for the price.

Soter is the Oregon winery of Tony Soter of Etude fame. They make a delicious blanc de blanc and brut rose. Mountain Dome is a wacky little operation here in Wa that makes really nice bubbles. I sneak all of these into bagged Champagne tastings and they always hold their own. Sounds like I’ll be adding some Mumm Napa to the mix.

Thanks, Ill check them out. Honestly Id be a bit surprised if Mumm fooled people for Champagne. They are pretty fruit forward (yet still light and elegant). But who knows. id love to see the result.
