TN: 2006 Mount Eden Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Estate Bottled

Wow, this is a killer wine. Scored a bunch of this at $19 a bottle and this will more than likely take first place for my QPR of the year. Wonderful wine with tons of upside! Going to wait at least a year or two before opening another.

  • 2006 Mount Eden Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Estate Bottled - USA, California, San Francisco Bay, Santa Cruz Mountains (12/14/2010)
    Decanted for 2 hours before this note. Nice dark ruby red color with a dark core. Gorgeous nose of plum, black cherry, creme de casis, vanilla oak, cocoa powder and some sweet cigar smoke. Underneath all the primary fruit is some tobacco, lead pencil shavings, creme friache hint of earth and some baking spices. Nose continues to develop with a red fruit profile, very seductive and almost mouth watering. Nose is pretty wide open, nice, plush and very intoxicating. Palate is a bit different when compared to the nose, a bit closed backwards. Still there is some nice red fruits, mildly creamy mouthfeel, medium body, firm tannins, touch of bottle sweetness and wonderful acid. Nice dose of spicy oak on the back end with more of the baking spices. For such a young tannic wine it still remains balanced and polished. No heat at all, nice balance of oak, fruit, tannin and acid. More of a classic styled CA cabernet. Lots of upside for this wine and should keep for a while. (92 pts.)

I liked this wine but didn’t think it was worth the $40+ I paid. I’d jump at that price!

I like Mount Eden Cabs.
Popped the '03 last weekend. It was quite good.
They are relative bargains even at the regular $35 price I usually see them for.

$20 is a killer deal for this wine, hope you loaded up!

I tasted the whole line-up with the proprietors last week, and given the freshness of the '94 Old Vines, I’d bet the '06 will provide pleasurable drinking for a decade at least.

Drank the '95 this past March and it was pretty awesome…And still youthful.
In general, ME Cabs are built to last.

I would think 10-15 year for this wine would be a sweet spot but will probably drink well for some time past 15.

I had the 94 recently and it was really nice.
