TN: 2006 McHenry Swan Clone Pinot Noir

I received the shipment a couple of weeks ago and couldn’t resist giving one of these a test drive.

Very translucent dusty rose color, with a slight hint of orange. Almost clear at the edges. Even my wife commented on how light it was. A muted nose on opening, but it really kicked-in with a couple of hours of air – strawberry/rhubarb, with a touch of asian spice and cinamon. Balanced attack on the palate, good acidity and polished tannins. Lingering finish that ends with a somewhat tart note.

This is definately a keeper. I’m looking forward to seeing what a few years of age does for it.

Thanks for the note Greg. Sounds great.
I have not yet gotten any '06 from McHenry, but I sure like what they are doing.
Cheers.

Thanks. Just got my shipment but I’ll try to hold mine for a bit.

Great note, thanks! I had one of these a few months ago and agree completely with your note.

Anyone else out there that has had this and the 05 Estate feel like this is was more approachable now than the 05 was? I remember having the 05 for the first time shortly after release and while it was certainly tasty, I felt that it needed at least another year or two to really start hitting its stride. The 06 certainly will improve with some time in the bottle, but I felt that it was already in a good place.

Anyway, mine is sitting at a friend’s house in Northern California. Can’t wait to get it!

This is even better on day two. It’s added a bit of funk and forest floor on the nose and weight on the palate. Most interestingly, it has gotten darker. I have never noticed this in a bottle of wine before. I assume that it may be a result of oxidation. Does anyone have prior experience with this?

Regardless, this is one nice pinot.

Likewise. Glad I listened to the Troll when he highlighted their '05 Estate Pinot.
