TN: 2006 Martinelli Zio Tony Ranch Chardonnay

Let me say at the outset that this is a surprisingly good bottle of wine. I have been utterly disappointed with a great many red wines by this producer (especially Zin), but I was well satisfied with this Chardonnay. I opened this bottle last night and am finishing it now. The wine has a nose of tropical fruit and a light straw color in the glass. In the mouth, I do not get what I was expecting – butter, oak, popcorn, etc. – but instead the wine offers melon and pear, along with some bees wax, a bit of brioche, and a steely element that I imagine would be denominated “gun metal” by a certain world renowned wine critic. Medium to long finish. This wine is very good, and I would buy it again. Does anyone know if Martinelli still subjects mailing list customers to that weird bundling program?

Thanks Brad. I’ve only had Martinelli pinots and have decided that they generally aren’t for me. I would be interested in trying a zin despite reviews i have read (from you i think)

The chard sounds not bad!

Nice note, Brad. Sometimes Martinelli strikes the spot. I’ve had more misses than hits the past three vintages, but this sounds nice.

But yes – still bundling away on the mailing list.

You can pick and choose from the latest offer. However, there is still 6 bottles min.
