Is it a blockbuster? Is it an oozemonster? Does it reek of oak and blueberries? Will it show well in a blind tasting alongside the likes of Harlan and Screagle?
No, no, no and no.
Is it varietally correct? Does it have a lovely nose of cherries, blackberries and cassis with a little herbal component? Is it elegant and perfectly balanced with fine-grained tannins? Does it scream, “Pour another glass?” Was it the perfect accompaniment to my porterhouse? To all of those the answer is a resounding “YES”.
Full retail is somewhere around $16. It’s on “post-off” in Portland right now, so I paid $11 for it. Stunning bargain, easily worth twice that and more.
Bob, Based on that note alone, I just ordered a case of it for $9.50 /bottle!
Yeah, I found this behind the Orange curtain at Amazing Grapes and Winex - both at $11.99. Someone reminded me that this was now a Gallo product!! But, for under 12 bucks, I’m swallowing.
Eric, I suppose it’s technically a Gallo product but from what I understand Gallo pretty much lets Carolyn and Mike Martini do things their own way. He makes the wine, she runs the business.
COOL! You brought back the choking chicken! sigh.
There’s the mark of a savy owner. Don’t screw with success.
Yeah, but Mao getting flipped off will be back at some point.
Looks like this would be a good wine for my “Gulpable” thread. Will hunt this down.
For 16 dollars, this sounds like its definitely worth a spin, thanks for the TN. I do love cabs with my Porterhouse.
You guys seen Rachael Ray Corn Porn?
I posted it in your thread. You shouldn’t have to hunt to hard. Safeway, Longs, Albertsons, BevMo . . . they should all have it. Or take a drive up Hwy. 29 and score some at the winery.
And it’s even better on night 2. Excellent at $12.
Just resurrecting this (no pun intended- but I think Bob would like it) because the post is (a) one of his his first here I think, and (b) it’s quintessesntial Wood.
