TN: 2006 Lemelson Vineyards Pinot Noir Thea's Selection (USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley)

  • 2006 Lemelson Vineyards Pinot Noir Thea’s Selection - USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley (11/10/2009)
A really lovely Pinot on the ripe end of the scale (14.5%). Luscious, spicy and ready to go as a pop and pour at Mistral in Boston. Fairly dark with a nearly RRV kind of profile. Quite concentrated with dark berry and some nice earth and a bit of tea with a medium long cinnamon spice finish. Medium to full bodied this leans towards power over elegance. I’d drink this over the next several years. (91 pts.)

We were staying 2 blocks away and lucked into it. Glad we found it. The entrees and dessert were delicious but the fish soup was to die for.

As a side note the Hotel 140 is quite a deal. It’s the old YWCA building on Clarendon right by the IM Pei Hancock Building and Trinity Church. Not fancy at all, but clean, a great location and a great price: $99

Thanks for the note Chris, I have never had a Lemelson Pinot before, but was thinking of cracking the 06 Meyer Vineyard on Friday night. From a food paring standpoint, it would seem the house style and the 06 vintage would dictate this being served with a nice grilled piece of fatty protein as opposed to someting a little more delicate, like salmon.

I haven’t had enough Lemelson to know a house style but I would agree with your pairing thoughts based on the Thea and the vintage. It was excellent with my steak au poivre and the SO’s rack of lamb.

The Thea Selection is typically a very nice wine. It is Lemelson’s lower end cuvee, that is typically made in a fruit forward, pop and pour, and enjoy me now method. Their Jerome Reserve and Svds are typically made in a more serious manner and often want/need a bit of aging.

The 06 Thea’s is drinking wonderfully now, and as typical of the vintage is a bit meaty and shows excellently with beef or lamb. Good pairing.

I see it’s available for $22 or so on Wine-Searcher and that is an excellent deal.
