TN: 2006 Kosta Browne Sonoma Coast Pinot

Popped and poured last night, drank out of Riedel Sommelier burgundy glasses.

A nose of cinnamon, cherry and vanilla, with some milk chocolate and allspice. This wine has a medium body, cherry, and light vanilla with a hint of oak, light smoke, cinnamon and milk chocolate.
Score: B+/A-

Way to young no doubt but with enough going on that it should be a very nice bottle of wine in several years.

Love seeing the KB notes sans heat. Waiting for mine to cool down for another 24 months.

This was one of the hottest wines I’ve ever had…no exaggeration. Alcohol doesn’t ‘integrate’.

I know but I let them age and then I run them through the reverse osmosis machine.

Hilarious. Please report back on that experiment. [berserker.gif]

I enjoyed the 05’s. The 06’s were not to my tastes. I would like to try the 07’s, but I wasn’t a buyer.

Of the 4 people drinking it, all experienced tasters, the word alcohol never was mentioned. [foilhat.gif]

Glassware?

How would glassware make a wine go from sans heat to scorching?

Shape and size. There is a reason the Riedel VSOP cognac and the Riedel scotch glass flare out at the top. I imagine if I put them in a Ridel Vinum Syrah my eyes would burn from the alcohol.

A Riedel Sommelier Burgundy glass flares out, a Riedel Vinum Pinot glass does not. Can the flaring at the top dissipate some of the alcoholic hit? Or at least our impression of it? I’m guessing so.

As I don’t own any Riedel Vinum Pinot glasses I cannot compare/contrast to be certain.

I’m also amazed. I recall the RRV '06 being far less hot than the SC, which, to me, was almost as much alcohol as mouthwash. I also remember enjoying some of the single vineyard '06’s, though, as they seemed quite well balanced.

Guess we got lucky then.

My circumstances exactly!!!

Had this wine a couple weeks ago. Probably agree with the TN. Here are a few additions from the TN posted:

cherry, vanilla (oak), light oak, milk chocolate (toasted oak), light smoke (toasted oak).

So to two most dominant flavors were cherry and oak, probably from a charred oak barrel. I also agreed that the wine was hot.

I didn’t believe this wine would improve with aging. It is what it is. I gave it a 86-87.
