TN: 2006 Keefer Ranch Pinot Noir Keefer Ranch Vineyard

  • 2006 Keefer Ranch Pinot Noir Keefer Ranch Vineyard - USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley (4/30/2009)
Traci and I opened this last night to accompany a panko and mustard crusted chicken breast with sauteed spinach and pancetta and sweet potato fries. This is drinking very well right now. Nose is red currant, red cherries, some underbrush/forest floor and spice. On the palate, there’s good acidity, more red cherries, pine, spice a little vanilla and milk chocolate on the very back. Good palate weight and very tasty. I would start drinking these up as it started to show a little touch of heat…probably due to the fact that the wine comes from fairly young fruit. Enjoy (91 pts.)

Thanks for the note, Tony! I really enjoyed this bottling and have two left so I might as well open them now…

By the by, have you tried the 07? I didn’t pull the trigger due to $, but I still think about it from time to time…

I haven’t tried the 07 yet surprisingly since I see Ed all the time and I know Ed has helped Craig quite a bit. I suspect the 07 will be very good as well.

I would crack an 06 soon and see what you think. I know that young vine fruit, at least in my experience, can drop off pretty quickly. Sort of like an 03 KB Koplen, which to me is the only wine of the 03’s that hasn’t aged well.
