Decanted. Drank over two days. ABV 15.8%. Wow. This is a BIG wine, and starting to drink really well right now. Definitely some alcohol blow off after opening and decanting. It’s very dark, almost black purple. Mostly opaque. On the nose (in addition to the alcohol) are hints of iodine, tar, black licorice. After opening up for a while there are extracted, bold flavors of ripe boysenberry and plum with hints of white pepper and cocoa dust. It’s got decent tannin to balance the slight sweetness of the extraction. The second day it was even a bit better - more rounded without getting flabby. (94 pts.)

This wine is really coming into its own, although it seems like it can still hold up a while longer.

Thanks for the note, I remember having this at the winery and thinking,“this is fantastic” and “don’t dare touch for quite a few years.” I’ve been laying off of mine for a while and will continue to do so.
