TN: 2006 Jadot - Savigny-Les-Beaune, Les Vergelesses

Picked up another Jadot as I ease myself into burgundy at costco for 28.99

Pop and pour.

Wow - big nose of strawberries, crushed red fruits, some forest floor and roasted meats.

Good frontal attack with nice acidity, mouthfeel and plush tannins.

Finish is long with no harshness.

I’m on 1.5 glasses and the bottle has been open for about 40 minutes.

Paired with a grilled steak salad with garden fresh tomatoes

This burgundy thing, provided you don’t drill $300.00 a bottle dry holes, doesn’t suck.

You need to stop slummin’ it.

I have almost gotten the taste of your DRC out of my mouth.

Slumming, and odd text messages from you, is all i really have left.

The wine continues to take on weight as the night progresses.

This is a nice find.

I’ll be adding more to the cart this weekend.

Sheesh. Hang around Manlin and Sir Mix-A-Lot long enough and they assimilate you.

I’m sure you can drill some dry holes somewhere for far less than $300 Chris, you must not have met the right guys yet.

In all honesty, I haven’t had a ton of Jadot wines from the Cote de Beaune, but those I’ve had have largely been solid wines, if perhaps a bit unexciting. They aren’t the minefield that a lot of producers cheap Beaune reds are though. I think they do a bit better in Cote de Nuits, but then the wines cost about twice as much or more for comparable levels (village vs. village, 1er vs 1er) so they damned well better  Drouhin also makes a lot of fine wines in the under $50 red category. I’m less impressed with most of the reds from Bouchard, Girardin, H Boillot among the other big houses, many of those are too ripe and too oaky for my tastes, though they all produce some solid bottlings in the mix. I don’t know that I’ve had enough cheapie Potels to contribute much of an opinion. Perhaps I should remedy that!

As a much younger idiot who tied pricing with quality - I assure you Josh, that while your point is 100% valid - my own stupidity led to many a bad decision.

Hey I’ve got a cellar full of shitty overpriced wine too. Well not a cellar full, but I still have too many bottles I wish I didn’t have, that’s for sure.

Nice job Chris.
Jadot has some nice property and make nice wines.
A great choice here.
I really like these 2006’s and for the prices being offered they are
a relative bargain.
Cheers and Thanks.

A good wine for the $…and Jadot normally provides a experience that doesnt miss.

Savigny-les-Beaune is an often overlooked area as is Beaune…there are some really good if not great wines hanging around here. I would also take a look at Pavelot (Jean-Luc?).

Faiveley (especially with the recent style change (since 05)) has some nice (inexpensive) wines out there.

Glad to see that you wetting your whistle with some Burgs…it can be tricky…but it sounds like you are going about it the right way. I would also suggest that you try some other producers (from the same vineyards if you can find them) as to compare styles and to just see how different Burgundy can be.

Check out the 06 Jadot Savigny Les Beaune Dominodes. About $30, and while admittedly tight, shows a lot of character and potential.

Thanks for the suggestions gents

For my money, Savigny is a great buy, and Simon Bize and (Jean Marc) Pavelot rule the roost. I understand Bruno Clair’s Savigny is great as well, but I haven’t been psyched on the asking price.

Yep…Bize is another great choice.

Welcome to the Dark Side, Freak. [diablo.gif]

Those 2006s are just beautiful. I’ve had Jadot, Bachelet, Raphet and Fourrier and haven’t been disappointed in any yet.

A warning about Pavelot: sometimes they need time to come around. The 2001s are ferociously tight right now.

I’ll third the Simon Bize. Excellent QPR.
