TN: 2006 Hardys Cabernet-Shiraz Nottage Hill (Australia, South Eastern)

  • 2006 Hardys Cabernet-Shiraz Nottage Hill - Australia, South Eastern (11/10/2014)
Inky dark purple, blue fruit nose, dry with mineral notes. Medium fruit and body, smooth tannins with lightly bitter notes. Oak has left the premises. Another night open and showing great improvement, more toward an old world, restrained style with smooth integrated tannins. Cherry and pomegranate, light acid to balance some subdued oak. Thinking Bolgheri IGT style wine, went from 85 to 89 overnight. Pleasant surprise, and to think I was going to dump it or cook with it, haste makes waste. (89 pts.)

Interesting, about a $7 wine here. Very little of this would last more than 24hrs upon leaving the shop.

I agree. We found one in my brother’s stash which cost nothing and decided to give it a whorl. I expected nothing or less, hence the note.

Like a declassified 'yellow tail". I wondered who drinks it or has the guts to own up to it!! rolleyes

Any way. Thanks you. And nice to get a data point on that one.

Well, my brother lived most of the last 15 years in Thailand, not known for their wine drinking. [snort.gif]

Thanks for the memory flashback ds! Nottage Hill was one of my “start-up” wines while I was still a precocious, unjaded 17-18 year old in Dominican Republic. Loved them back then.
