TN- 2006 Girardin Bourgogne Rouge

After the wine orgy Wednesday night with friends in Chicago, I was in the mood to take it easy last night. So I popped into a local French brasserie, sat at the bar, ordered steak frites (black & blue, thank you) and saw this on the list. I am becoming quite a fan of 2006 red Burgs, so I asked the bartender for a taste. Yep, worth getting a glass.

-2006 Girardin Bourgogne Rouge
Lovely fresh red berries and earth mingle, though this is one of the more earthier 2006s I’ve had lately (compared to Raphet’s Bourgogne Rouge which had much more bright, almost exuberant fruit). The mouthfeel is velvety, not very rustic at all, and the finish surprisingly long (again, especially for a Bourgogne Rouge, and a Girardin at that). There was very little oak evident (if any) though there was some spiciness to the wine. Not bad, and perfect for a relaxing dinner alone at the bar.
Cheers! [cheers.gif]
