TN: 2006 Fontodi Chianti Classico Riserva Vigna del Sorbo

  • 2006 Fontodi Chianti Classico Riserva Vigna del Sorbo - Italy, Tuscany, Chianti, Chianti Classico DOCG (4/7/2014)
Decanted 2 hrs. Solid nose, full of deep, dark cherry fruit and suave cedar scents. Not surprisingly, still very primary on the palate. But even at this young stage, the quality and purity of the Sangiovese is unmistakable, and hinting at delicious complexities to come. Great mid palate grip and acidity, yet conveys an aristocratic (for lack of a better word) texture. Long and very persistent on the finish. Should age for many years, but no harm in enjoying this wine now. (94 pts.)

I was pleasantly surprised to see this at Costco a few months back. Super wine.

Decanted 2 hrs. Really humming along since my last bottle in 2014. Clearly in the full plane of maturity, the powerful dark plum fruit buffers nicely against solid acidity and still present tannins. Cedar-eque notes around the ages, perhaps with the inclusion of cab in these older vintages, and with the darker fruit profile, this really drank more like a Super Tuscan than Chianti Reserva which could be off putting to some, but I thought this was a really good wine. I see I have 5 of these in the cellar, not tried since release. Sounds great. I should cue one up!

Grasshopper, if you have 5, time for you to drink! [cheers.gif]

Good job Dale. Nice to follow a quality wine thru its development.
