TN: 2006 Felton Road Pinot Noir (New Zealand, South Island, Otago, Central Otago)

  • 2006 Felton Road Pinot Noir - New Zealand, South Island, Otago, Central Otago (6/21/2009)
Popped and tasted before I left home. You could immediately taste cherries. Delicious. When I finally poured at the restatuant, the color of the wine was a beautiful purple/lavender. I’ve never seen that shade. The wine was really opening up at 90 minutes after it was popped. Even my wife tasted the cherries.
At 90 minutes I tasted a hint of smoke. At 2 hours, the last drop had really smoothed out. I thought the wine was Oregonian in style. It was delicious. My guess is this will improve with additional bottle time.

FYI, I purchased this 18 months ago in LA. I purchased the Felton because:

  • I knew wine from Central O (as they say in NZ) has a great reputation
  • I knew wine from Felton has a good reputation.

I call this the scientific method of buying wine. (90 pts.)

This is my first WB TN. [cheers.gif]

Thanks for your note!

Did you get any heat on the palate? I seem to recall some on the bottle I opened last year, but I didn’t take any formal notes.

Chris

No heat.

Thanks for the note, Dan. I like the Felton Road wines a lot … and have seen this one kicking around my local Costco for $33 or so. Think I’ll have to pick it up finally.
