2006 Domaine Grand Nicolet Côtes du Rhône Villages Rasteau Vieilles Vignes - France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Côtes du Rhône Villages Rasteau (11/10/2009)
Fleshy and extracted though without signs of oak or softness. Lots of tannin though not harsh. This is very darkly fruited for a wine of mostly Grenache, almost more like a Syrah or Mouvedre. The fruit relaxes on the 2nd night bringing up a more lean feeling palate. A good wine right now but there are honestly lot’s of options from S Rhone and Languedoc for this or less money that offer better value today. This does need a couple more years to relax and hopefully add some depth and complexity which would make it more worth while.
