TN: 2006 David Arthur Meritaggio (USA, California, Napa Valley)

2006 David Arthur Meritaggio - USA, California, Napa Valley (8/14/2009)
WIML87-88

Tasted August 14, 2009 at the winery.

Dark garnet color in the glass, clear hue throughout. Nose of smoke, thistle and currants. Flavors of cranberries, berries and a dash of cherry on the clipped finish. Light to medium acidity, light to medium tannins, medium body. Drink over the short term. (88 pts.)

As much as I love going to the winery and hanging out with David, I cant get into the wines for some reason.

I can certainly see that. Especially based on this experience. However, based on a premature tasting of the 2007 1147 I’m thinking his new winemaker has things on track for the better.

A friend brought over a bottle of the 2011 over the weekend which we had with taco salad. It was better than I expected, pretty good red fruit, not cloying at all. Seems to be a Bordeaux blend with Sangiovese tossed in there too. Enjoy now. Kind of anti QPR from what I understand though.

David doesn’t like malbec, so he uses sangiovese instead.
